Maternity Support Worker - Higher Level

We are looking for an enthusiastic maternity support worker to work as part of our specialist community midwifery team for vulnerable women (Indigo Team). The Indigo Team provides enhanced maternity care to some of the most vulnerable women in our community and the successful applicant would work closely with the specialist midwives to provide a tailored package of care, support and education during the antenatal and postnatal periods. We believe that utilising specialist, trained maternity support workers will make a significant difference to the accessibility of services and maternity experiences and outcomes for vulnerable families. The South Tees NHS Trust provides maternity services to women and families in areas which include some of the most deprived in the country and many children in this area do not have the best start in life. Our communities experience many of the issues associated with deprivation including high levels of unemployment, teenage pregnancy, substance use, crime including domestic abuse; poor population health; and high numbers of children in care and a significant number of children living in poverty. Both Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland have seen an increase in the number of children living in poverty at well above the national average., In this role you will be responsible for;

• Providing vulnerable families personalised antenatal care, support and education to enhance their care and improve outcomes
• Providing vulnerable families with enhanced postnatal care up until discharge from community maternity services at 28 days after birth
• Working within the specialist community midwifery team (Indigo Team) to implement personalised support plans
• Working as part of the multi-agency team around the family including through safeguarding procedures
• Signposting to community and specialist services and working within the wider multidisciplinary agencies and VCSE organisations
• Working flexiblyin the community setting
• Advocating for women both within maternity services and the wider community including by identifying and addressing barriers to engagement
• Promoting physical wellbeing, such as providing aqua natal classes and walking groups
• Delivering essential baby items and equipment sourced via local baby banks
• Data collection and evaluation of the role throughout its implementation
• Driving and access to own car is essential for this role
