Full Job Description

To provide a professional, high quality mammographic imaging service. Working in both the symptomatic service and NHS Breast Screening Programme, producing mammograms of the highest standard. You will practice for the majority of the time, unsupervised and often supervising Assistant practitioners, trainee Mammographers and trainee Mammography Associates. Clinical training within the Breast Imaging Department and academic MSc modules at Nottingham Breast Institute to gain the highest level of specialist knowledge in mammographic appearance and breast pathologies. Although this is part time hours (26.25 per week), the hours of 08:00 - 16:30hrs are a requirement. No weekend, or on-call shifts required.,

  • To use highly specialised knowledge to image the breast producing images of consistent high quality, whilst minimising exposure to radiation. Ensuring that practice is up to date and evidence based.
  • Observe the code of professional conduct of Radiographers as suggested by the Health Professions Council and the Society of Radiographers Code of Professional Conduct, local Trust policies, protocols and guidelines, to ensure a high standard of professionalism and patient care, adhering to patient charter standards.
  • To comply with the current legislation relating to Health and Safety and Radiation Protection
  • To ensure attendance at the statutory training sessions.
  • Clinical
  • To work unsupervised and, when required, in a supervisory capacity with an assistant practitioner in a mobile or static screening clinic. Responsible for the smooth running of the clinic, keeping within tight time restraints for the imaging of each woman.
  • To document clinical observations and use own judgement to clinically recall women to assessment.
  • To recognise abnormalities on mammography and seek advice from radiologist regarding further imaging when appropriate.
  • Communication with patients daily who need reassurance due to anxiety about the screening process, recall or their condition, necessary to obtain their confidence, consent, and co-operation to acquire diagnostic images

    An exciting opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic Mammographer to undertake specialist training to join a team of Advanced Practitioners. As the post-holder, you will be supported in a training role leading to advanced practice in breast imaging. This will include a specialist qualification in performing Breast Interventional Examinations and depending on service need, may include training in Breast Image interpretation skills. We are looking to recruit a conscientious, self-motivated, and passionate Mammographer who has experience working in both the NHS Breast Screening Programme and symptomatic breast care. Applicants are required to hold a BSc equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography, a Post Graduate Certificate in Mammography and significant recent experience of the National Breast Screening Programme. It is also beneficial to have experience of working within the stereotactic suite. The successful candidate will complete modules in X-ray Guided Breast Interventional Biopsy to start, and progress onto the Breast Image Interpretation and Reporting course if required. Whilst training the successful candidate will be a Band 6, progressing to Band 7 once appropriate qualifications have been attained. Applicants must hold a full, clean, UK driving license as Norfolk is a rural location, and you will be driving hospital pool cars to all breast screening remote locations.   • Our friendly and dynamic Breast Imaging Department is part of the QSI Accredited Radiology Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, being 1 in 23 Trusts in the UK who have this accreditation. The hospital has a fully integrated RIS and PACS system. There is full field digital technology including Tomosynthesis and Contrast Enhanced Spectral mammography. Opportunity to develop into Advance Practice. The Breast Imaging Department is based at the Norfolk and Norwich University hospital (NNUH) which is a state-of-the-art acute hospital trust on the outskirts of Norwich City. Providing both a symptomatic and NHS breast screening service. The Breast Imaging Department consists of 2 mammography rooms equipped with Full Field Digital (FFD) technology including tomosynthesis, contrast enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) and 3 ultrasound rooms. There is a third designated FFD room for stereotactic guided biopsies which can produce 3D biopsy imaging. A breast MRI guided biopsy service is in the process of being set up. We are a progressive department and aim to always be at the forefront of breast imaging developments. The Breast unit embraces the four-tier structure with Assistant Practitioners, Specialist Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners and Consultant Radiographers all being valuable members of our team. We have a lot to offer a forward thinking proactive mammographer. Breast Screening is based nearer Norwich city Centre at the Norwich Community Hospital in a static unit accommodating 2 Mammography rooms. In addition, there is a static screening unit on the coast in Cromer District Hospital, and 2 mobile screening vans that cover all picturesque rural Norfolk. All equipment is full field digital technology.
