The post holder will work as a Locum Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, providing high-quality clinical care to patients referred to the department. They will contribute to the full range of OMFS activity across elective and emergency pathways, including outpatient clinics, theatre lists, and on-call commitments as rostered. The locum consultant will work alongside substantive consultants, specialist trainees, and the wider multidisciplinary team to maintain safe, effective, and patient-centred care. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Locum Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to join our team on a full-time basis (10 PAs). This is an excellent opportunity to work within a high-performing department at the forefront of facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, and oral pathology, alongside internationally recognised colleagues.,

  • Medical & Dental Degrees - Primary medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) AND primary dental degree (BDS or equivalent)
  • Intercollegiate Fellowship - FRCS (OMFS) or equivalent
  • Specialist Register - On the GMC Specialist Register for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, or within six months of award of CCT at time of interview
  • GMC & GDC Registration - Full registration with a licence to practise from GMC and a registrable dental qualification
  • CLINICAL EXPERIENCE Essential
  • Facial Trauma - Demonstrable experience in the management of complex facial trauma including panfacial fractures, orbital reconstruction, and mandibular injuries
  • Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery - Broad experience in the full range of OMFS including dentoalveolar surgery, orthognathic surgery, salivary gland, and oral pathology
  • Desirable
  • Major Trauma Centre - Experience of working in a Major Trauma Centre or equivalent high-volume acute OMFS environment
  • Oncology / Head & Neck - Experience in oral oncology or head and neck surgery, Communication - Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex information to patients and colleagues
  • Teamworking - Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams across surgical specialties
  • Leadership - Ability to lead clinical teams and provide senior decision-making in emergency situations
  • Teaching - Experience of supervising and teaching surgical trainees and students
  • RESEARCH & AUDIT Essential
  • Audit - Participation in clinical audit and quality improvement projects
  • Desirable
  • Research / Publication - Evidence of contribution to peer-reviewed research or publication, Professionalism - Commitment to high standards of professional conduct and patient care; adherence to GMC Good Medical Practice
  • Flexibility - Ability to adapt to a busy and varied clinical environment; willingness to cover on-call commitments
  • Right to Work - Eligible to work in the United Kingdom without restriction
