Full Job Description
This post is a full-time appointment for medically-qualified trainees by the Intestinal Failure Unit. The current post is designed to support the care of patients with intestinal failure, consistent with the advanced nutrition training curriculum and also provide experience in general nutrition support. The timetable includes advanced training in nutrition, the
management of intestinal failure and clinical nutrition, histopathology, radiology sessions.
The trainee will gain unique experience in caring for the patients with the most complex nutritional requirements, encompassing all areas detailed within the advanced nutrition curriculum. The trainee will gain experience in the management of complications and (where required)
expertise in placing dedicated long-term lines; the trainee will also gain insight into how NCA IFU has achieved the lowest sustained rates of central venous catheter infections worldwide. he trainee will primarily support the IFU team, with standard days encompassing joining IFU
board and ward rounds on H8, assisting with ward work in direct patient care and acute assessment of new admissions.
The trainee is expected to communicate with referring teams prior to patients being admitted and subsequently required to arrange processes of investigations. This may include organising and discussing investigations and treatment with the senior members if the team to allow further medical or surgical definite treatment.
The trainee is also requested to attend MDTs throughout the week. That will include the twice weekly waiting list management and bed planning meetings (Mon and Thurs), the troubleshoot meeting (Thurs) and the supra-regional MDT (Fri).
