Full Job Description

Genomics is transforming healthcare at pace. NHS England predicts that by 2035, up to half of all medical treatments will be informed by genomics, with a national ambition to be the first health system to offer consistent and equitable clinical genomic testing for all. The North Thames Genomic Medicine Service (NT GMS) is the second busiest GMS in the country, undertakes the most genomic testing per head of population, and serves the most diverse population in England. This gives us a dual responsibility: to remain at the forefront of genomic science, whilst ensuring these innovations actively reduce health inequalities. This is a new, values-led role for a Senior Project Manager to lead our Health Equity project portfolio. You will work closely with the NT GMS Health Equity Lead to design, implement and evaluate projects that address disparities in access, experience and outcomes of genomic testing. You will manage complex stakeholders across the NHS, academia and other collaborators, applying a health equity lens to every stage of project delivery., The Health Equity Senior Project Manager will be responsible for delivering a defined portfolio of projects within the NT GMS Health Equity Strategy, ensuring delivery on time, to scope and to stakeholder satisfaction. Key duties include:

  • Leading and managing the Health Equity project portfolio as directed by the NT GMS Health Equity Lead.
  • Developing and presenting progress reports, risk logs and outcome summaries for senior staff and external partners.
  • Maintain close working relationships with NT GMS teams Education and Training, Communications and Engagement, and Informatics teams to evaluate and improve health equity.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clinical teams, laboratory and operations staff, Patient and Public Carer (PPC) panels, and Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector partners.
  • Influencing without authority to align colleagues with equity-centred practices and project objectives.
  • Horizon scanning for emerging health inequality policies and guidelines, translating insights into actionable recommendations.

We are committed to recruiting the best person for the job through a fair, open and consistent process that is free from bias and discrimination.
  • We are working towards becoming an anti-racist organisation. This means creating a workplace where every colleague feels seen, heard and valued, and where racism in any form has no place. Our anti-racism commitment is backed by action through our Anti-Racism Statement and action plan, developed in collaboration with our REACH staff network. We actively challenge discrimination, dismantle barriers and embed equity across all aspects of our workforce, including recruitment, progression and development. All applicants will receive equal consideration regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, health condition or employment history. We particularly welcome applications from ethnically diverse communities, people with disabilities or long-term health conditions, and LGBTQ+ community members. We are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer, a member of the Business Disability Forum, and a Stonewall Diversity Champion. Our staff networks, including REACH, PRIDE, ENABLED and Women's Networks, are active and executive supported. These employee-led networks play a vital role in shaping an inclusive culture at GOSH and are open to all colleagues. Together, we are building a culture where inclusion is not optional - it is essential.
