Full Job Description

Band 3 Health Care Support Worker, Inpatient Wards, Bart's Cancer Centre (band 2 if not in possession of the care certificate with opportunity to complete within first 12 weeks of appointment and band 3 be awarded)

The post holder will work as part of the team on one of the inpatient ward areas supporting the team of registered nurses, nursing associates and student nurses in delivering safe effective care to patients within the cancer inpatient ward area. They will work in collaboration with the medical and wider MDT teams, ensuring a high-quality service to patients. The post holder will support with the orientation of new team members and learners within the clinical environment and as necessary act as a link nurse support worker as the needs are required. The candidate can assist in supporting audits and data collection as part of ward projects (QI).

The post holder will support the nursing and wider team in providing high quality care within resources available to the patients being cared for in the inpatient ward area. They will always act as a role model ensuring safe and effective care is provided to all within their level of competency to practice.

The post holder will escalate any concerns or worries to qualified members of the team. The post holder will be expected to complete the care certificate on appointment and aim to complete this within 12 weeks of appointment. The post holder will participate in meeting patient needs within the service to agreed standards to ensure key national and local targets / Key performance indicators are met. The post holder will have opportunity to undertake further training and development to enable them to participate in phlebotomy to support staff and meet patient's needs.

Responsibilities:

Clinical: Patient care

Ensure attend relevant education and training to support personal and professional development

Management and Leadership

Assist in audit and QI projects as required.

Effective risk management, DATIX incidents and promote a culture of safe practice with openness and transparency.
