Summary

Help us shape lasting cultural change and achieve our vision of creating a truly inclusive University community. Over the last five years we have made significant progress and you will join us at a time where we are making plans for the next five years, where our focus will be on building lasting positive cultural change.

You will be able to confidently communicate, in the broadest sense, about equality, diversity and inclusion, in a manner that is authentic, sophisticated and engaging, demonstrating insight into the complexities and intersections involved.

You will have a proven record of critical thinking and analysis, facilitating open and honest conversations, and achieving success with others. You will be able to quickly build strong trusting relationships across many different groups of people. You may have lived experience that you can draw on and know when to call on this.

A key part of the role is being the lead author of our various institutional equality charter submissions, such as Athena Swan and Race Equality Charter. You will need to work with a wide range of insight, data and perspectives from multiple sources and have the ability to knit these together so that they form an honest, compelling narrative that addresses the relevant charter requirements and - more importantly - helps us make progress.

You will also have a role in developing and delivering innovative and engaging ways to help our community see what difference this work is making to the day to day experience of staff and students, as well as developing ways for our community to actively shape and embed our vision for a more inclusive University.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 24 August.

Our planned interview date is Friday 12 September.

Interviews will take place in person on our Highfield Campus in Southampton. Candidates invited to interview will be given a pre-interview task to complete, which will be sent to shortlisted candidates around a week before interviews take place.

If you have any questions or would like an informal chat about the role, please contact us via diversity@soton.ac.uk.
