Full Job Description

Library & Learning Services supports learning and teaching across the University through the development and maintenance of the University's library collections, and through engagement with students to develop their academic and digital skills. The service also supports the University's research activity through provision of the University's research output and research data repositories. Library and Learning Services also provides accessibility services, as well as expertise in accessibility and inclusive learning, to students and staff.

Your team in Digital Training will be comprised of you and 3 others at York Campus, and 1 at London Campus.

The role

25.9 hours (0.7 FTE) per week, permanent.

Working pattern is suggested as 3 full days (7.4 hours) and 1 half day (3.7 hours) - full days as Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, with the half day to be agreed between the successful candidate and Academic Services Manager. Based on York Campus.

We are looking to appoint a Digital Training Tutor to play a key teaching role in supporting students' and our staffs' learning and success.

This is an ideal opportunity for a committed and reflective teacher who enjoys helping learners develop confidence, independence, and effective study and work practices-particularly where digital tools form part of academic work and assessment.

Working as part of the larger York based Academic Services Team in Library & Learning Services, and in close partnership with academic colleagues and colleagues in Innovation and Technology Services, you will teach, design learning activities, and support students (and staff) to develop the digital skills they need to succeed on their programmes, in their work, or their research. Much of your work will involve explaining unfamiliar tools or concepts in clear, accessible ways, responding to individual learning needs, and helping students and staff apply digital skills directly to their assignments and assessments.

Rather than requiring you to already be a technical expert in every system, this role suits someone who is curious, confident in problem solving, and willing to explore new tools, with a strong grounding in pedagogy and inclusive teaching practice. Being a capable and thoughtful teacher matters most.

You will contribute to the embedding of digital skills within the curriculum, working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a consistent and supportive student experience across programmes, with a particular focus on teaching and learning at the York Campus.

You will also have opportunities to engage in continuing professional development, pedagogic and subject based research, and to contribute to wider University work in areas such as inclusive and equitable teaching, accessibility, and digital confidence for all learners.

Is motivated by improving learning outcomes for students

Enjoys teaching groups with varied levels of confidence and experience

Can adapt their teaching to different settings (in person, online, blended)
