Full Job Description

  • After the first year getting "badged" as either an Electrical, Mechanical or Hull & Outfit designer, Having around 5 placements within the business with Designer teams on one of our Submarine programmes (Astute, Dreadnought and SSN AUKUS) creating models and outputs using the relevant CAD software (either CADDS5, FORAN or Siemens NX). This training is all provided as part of your apprenticeship
  • Learning and developing in teamwork, communication, sustainability and health & safety
  • Working towards completion of a Level 3 End Point Assessment as an Engineering Design Technician

    5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 9-4 / A-C which must include Maths & English & a Science / Technical Subject

    The designer apprenticeship is the start of your Engineering career, where you will learn the fundamentals to become a competent designer being coached by Subject Matter Experts within detailed design, whilst working on cutting-edge technology for a World Leading Organisation.
    • The Submarines Team: Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes. Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s.
