Full Job Description
A Design Safety Management Engineer is required to support the Head of Design in the management of the Safety Management System (SMS) for RUK's CAA & MAA Design Organisation Approvals. This role will involve the following:
- Manage and maintain the SMS element of the Design Management System (DMS)
- Maintain the Design Organisation Risk Register and administer Risk Register reviews to ensure it continues to record, assess and mitigate design related hazards
- Investigate design related occurrences, findings and conduct root cause analysis
- Support the safety assurance process including resolution of non-compliances and required procedure improvements
- Actively promote the design organisation SMS and communicate and prepare key safety risks/concerns for airworthiness and safety meetings
- Maintain effective coordination with the Aviation Safety Team to ensure that design SMS requirements are fulfilled
- Support in the management and monitoring of RUK design organisation sub-contractor approvals and the integration of applicable DMS requirements. Support audit activity, work package descriptions and the liaison with supply chain and commercial
- Support internal and external audit activity and address audit findings and improvement opportunities
- Research regulation and advise on compliance matters; identify procedure updates or contract changes needed to comply The role will also include supporting RUKs Coordinating Design Organisation (CDO) in the following:
- Manage design data and requirements between the design organisations involved in supporting RUK design changes and repairs
- Coordinate customer design queries
- Represent and coordinate CDO inputs in design organisation and customer meetings Functional Responsibilities Close liaison with Head of Design, Office of Airworthiness and key customer representatives. Collaboration and support to the wider engineering community. Adherence to, and development of, best practice process.
- Degree Qualified in a relevant subject, e.g. Aeronautics, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics, or equivalent relevant experience. Membership of a Professional body.
- Knowledge of MAA regulations, Part 21 DOA, aircraft airworthiness regulations and interfaces with maintenance and Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisations.
- Adequate knowledge of multiple aerospace design disciplines.
- Experience with Product Data Management tools. Personal Characteristics

- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Recognise the need for regular, concise and objective status reporting.
- Eligible for or Holder of current SC security clearance (RSL will sponsor as required).
