Full Job Description

The Configuration Controller is a member of the Configuration Management team providing configuration control, ERP system data entry and drawing office in support of engineering projects and manufacturing orders. Responsible for providing configuration control, management, performance and reporting of allocated Drawing Office services that meets the needs of the business whilst providing support to Engineering and Manufacturing team members.,

  • To ensure individual deliverables are identified and to work with the Delivery Configuration Controller and Business Units to ensure commitments are delivered to the required schedule requirements
  • To update product configuration in accordance with approved change instructions
  • To ensure product configuration control is robust and rigorously checked before drawing packs are released onto the system
  • To provide support to other Drawing Office team members
  • To ensure product configuration is in accordance with Production Engineering, Material Management and Manufacturing requirements
  • To participate in contract reviews and ensure that drawing pack requirements are identified allowing smooth introduction into manufacturing and procurement phases
  • To investigate and support the resolution of product configuration issues as they arise and to complete the necessary corrective actions accordingly
  • To support the Delivery Configuration Controller, Materials Management and Business Assurance functions regarding drawing pack queries
  • To be innovative and be aware of relevant new technologies / processes. To support the introduction of these technologies/ processes into the Drawing Office department as appropriate
  • To demonstrate initiative and contribute towards a proactive and dynamic environment that supports the success of projects / the business
  • To work in accordance with UENCS company procedures at all times
  • To work in accordance with design and development procedures
  • To work in accordance with Drawing Office and configuration control procedures
  • Specific procedures are defined in the Implementation Manual 611/RE/41357/000

    BTEC (or equivalent) qualified in related discipline
  • Experience working in a Drawing Office environment and managing product configuration
  • Experience working with Bills of Materials and Parts Masters within an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and managing their structure to suit manufacturing needs
  • Experience providing Drawing Office support to Manufacturing department
  • Computer-literate and a confident user of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience of developing and managing the configuration control of military and naval products
  • Have knowledge of related engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical engineering, production engineering and electrical / electronic engineering) with ability to read and understand electronic schematics, wiring schedules and mechanical part/ assembly drawings
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes and assembly techniques
  • Experience reviewing configuration control processes and implementing cost effective improvements
  • Experience working in a project environment working to quality, cost and schedule constraints.
  • Have good financial, commercial and safety awareness
  • Ability to communicate complex problems verbally and graphically
  • Ability to work on own or in a team environment
