Full Job Description

This role is for clinicians at registrar level interested in working with a dynamic and broad MDT within the critical care units across Newcastle Hospitals. The post is intended to provide experience in adult critical care medicine including intensive care training equivalent to that recommended by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine., Part of the role includes management of referrals from other departments within the hospital, including wards, medical admissions units and Emergency Department and providing medical support for the nursing outreach service. Supervision and teaching of more junior critical care residents is an important part of this post.

The post is available from 6 August 2026 until 3 August 2027. Note this post is critical care only (no formal anaesthesia placements). A minimum of 2 years clinical experience in the UK in ICM, anaesthesia or general medicine is required, including at least 3 months ICM and suitable advanced airway skills. The post is suitable for applicants who have completed core training in an ICM partner specialty (anaesthetics/internal medicine/emergency medicine) that would allow application to ST3 ICM training., As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you., Successful candidates will be expected to have completed foundation training, have 2 years post foundation experience in acute specialties (anaesthetics/emergency medicine/internal medicine/ACCS) in the NHS and to be competent to work with indirect supervision within the intensive care unit. Prior experience in intensive care is required - 3 months minimum. Evidence of suitable advanced airways skills is also required.
