Biodiversity Net Gain Officer

Grade E Salary

£29,269 - £31,364 pro rata per annum

Fixed term contract for 1 year (secondment possible)

18.5 hours per week Yare House, Norwich and home-working

This rewarding role offers an opportunity to work with the planning team at the Broads Authority to achieve ecological betterment through development as we implement the requirements of The Environment Act 2021. This created a mandatory requirement for development to provide Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), commencing with schemes for major development from November and all development from April 2024.

The role is to develop the policies and processes to achieve this and advise the planning team, applicants and agents on BNG requirements at pre-application and planning application stage. Alongside the desk-based work, the postholder may visit sites to review the baseline habitat and monitor the implementation of BNG on permitted sites. There may also be opportunities to undertake field surveys for land potentially being used for off-setting as well as monitoring sites that have received off-set biodiversity units.

The successful candidate will have a strong environmental background, good knowledge of environmental legislation, habitats and species, experience of survey work and excellent verbal and written communication skills. An understanding of the principles of town planning would be an advantage.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Friday 8 November

Interviews will be held at Yare House, Norwich on Friday 22 November.
