University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Commercial Financial Controller to provide expert financial leadership across the Trust's commercial portfolio focused on overseeing our two commercial subsidiaries and delivering an outsourced finance function to external entities. This is a pivotal role in supporting UHB's strategic ambition to Build Healthier Lives, ensuring that all commercial income streams, partnerships, ventures and contracts are financially sound, deliver value for money and align with our core values of Kind, Connected and Bold. The postholder will lead on the financial oversight and governance of commercial activities, driving robust financial management and ensuring initiatives contribute effectively to UHB's key strategic priorities of Patients, People, Potential, Place and Performance. You will play a critical role in shaping and supporting commercial decision-making at a senior level. Main duties of the job This role is primarily based at Regent Court, near Five Ways Island (central Birmingham), with an expectation of on-site presence at least three days per week and flexibility to work remotely for up to two days. Lead financial management and oversight of commercial activities and subsidiaries within UHB. Provide high quality financial planning, forecasting, and commercial modelling to support strategic decision making. Ensure commercial ventures and income streams are developed, evaluated, and monitored using robust financial frameworks. Produce timely, accurate, and insightful financial analysis and performance reports for senior stakeholders. Support strong financial governance across contracts, partnerships, and business cases to maximise value for the Trust. Advise senior leaders on financial risks, opportunities, and commercial strategy. Foster collaborative working relationships with operational, financial, and external partners to strengthen commercial performance. Ensure all activities align with UHB's values and the Trust's commitment to delivering high quality, sustainable healthcare services.
