Full Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a flexible working approach to deliver a high quality patient-focused pharmacy service at Good Hope Hospital. Applications are invited from all dispensing assistants, including those who are community-based with no previous hospital experience. This is an excellent opportunity to further your pharmacy career and break into the hospital sector.

The successful candidate will work on the acute medicine wards, managing stock levels, helping to dispense prescriptions for patients on these wards, and working collaboratively with ward staff to improve stock holding. You will also contribute to cost saving schemes, such as returning unused medications. You will ensure that medication is supplied safely, accurately and in a timely manner. Full training will be given.

You will be part of an expanding team of highly professional and dedicated staff whose aim is to provide an excellent, patient focused service., The required candidate must have excellent organisational and time management skills, as they will be responsible for a variety of ward-based, dispensary and stock management activities. They will need to have good attention to detail and be happy working flexibly within a team.

They will:

Meet the essential criteria of the job specification

Hold a QCF Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (formerly NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Assistant) qualification or equivalent

The role involves:

Working on the acute medicine wards, managing stock levels and improving stock holding

Dispensing prescriptions for in and out-patients

Contributing to cost saving schemes, such as returning unused medications

Stock control and checking/assembling items for ward stock

Topping up the emergency cupboard

Preparing discharge prescriptions, including blister packs

Preparing controlled drug orders

Reception and telephone duties

Supporting the training and supervision of pre-registration technicians and other support staff
