Teaching Assistants required for

Outstanding Special School in Hackney

Salary Scale 4: Dependent on Experience

Term time only approx. 31hrs per week

Stormont House School is an outstanding secondary special school in the heart of Hackney but accept students from across London.

Students at this school have complex and inter-related special educational needs to the extent that their ability to learn, thrive and develop in a secondary mainstream setting is significantly affected. The vast majority of students arrive on secondary transfer from mainstream primary schools.

Our pupils are terrific: all have well-documented difficulties, but all come with untapped strengths and talents too. They each make massive journeys in their learning and personal development from start to finish (even though there may be bumps in the road at times!)

We’ve been judged as ‘outstanding’ three times by Ofsted (2005, 2008, 2014) - one of the very first outstanding schools in the country. Our vision aims even higher: ‘Achievement for all in a unique world-class school’. We intend to be the best in the world at what we do; to achieve this we need staff that are already very good and also intend to be the best at what they do. We are far from perfect; we make mistakes but try to learn from them.

Does this sound like a school you’d like to be part of?

We are seeking to recruit teaching assistants with commitment, enthusiasm, flexibility and considerable resilience!  Energy and a good sense of humour will help too!  Applicants are expected to have good literacy and numeracy skills along with a good understanding of how children learn and be able to form strong relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues. You will need to be (very) patient, and resourceful, and will understand the need to challenge and promote good learning.

We can promise you a supportive team and opportunities to develop your own skills and knowledge and considerable job satisfaction. Hours are 8.30 to 3.30 although attendance at fortnightly afterschool CPD until 5pm will be a requirement.

Closing date for applications:  Tuesday 15 March at 5pm.  Visits to the school can be arranged for Thursday 10 or Friday 11 March.

Stormont House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, all staff must share this commitment.  The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS criminal records check

Please contact Brenda Vanriel for an application pack.  All applications must be made using the application form, no CV’s will be considered.
