Lighthouse Technician (Electronics)
c.£24,321 rising to £28,006 per annum dependent upon experience, plus overtime and a generous benefits package, including Civil Service pension.

As the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar, we are a world leader in the provision of aids to navigation. Providing nearly 600 aids to navigation, the service uses three ships and new technology to deliver a leading-edge service.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a technical team responsible for the maintenance and repair of our lighthouses, depots and other installations. You will be working on a wide range of electronic and electrical systems and equipment. The working environments can vary from land based installations to those that are off shore or on rougher terrains. This, coupled with the physical nature of the duties involved, will require appropriate levels of health and fitness. Modes of transport to access the installations can be a combination of road transport, boat and helicopter.
To be considered for this post, it is essential that you have a BTEC level 3 or equivalent in an Electronic based engineering discipline. Previous experience in a technical maintenance role is also essential, along with a thorough working knowledge of health and safety legislation. You must possess good IT skills and written communication skills including report writing. A working knowledge of electrical systems and circuits would be advantageous.
The post will be based in Harwich, but will involve extensive UK travel with extended time away from home.
The starting salary is dependent upon experience and is scalable as above, increasing via progression through the competency framework attached to this position. Due to the remote locations of our work, non-guaranteed overtime is available and averages around £5–8k per annum.
