Sports Writer/Sub-editor

We are looking for a Sports Writer/Sub-editor to work on our weekly newspaper titles in Hertfordshire, based in Stevenage. Applicants should be able to demonstrate competence in written and verbal communication skills and must have completed a NCTJ pre-entry course, or alternatively have at least two years' employment in journalism. A knowledge of In-Design is preferable.
The role involves seeking out sports news and information and delivering accurate, balanced and clear stories that will appeal to readers and maintain interest in the brands, both in print and online.
Candidates should be able to understand and work to editorial policy and the house style of the paper and must also be able to comply with the PCC Code of Practice, making sure stories are accurate and legally safe.
The successful candidate may specialise in some areas but will also be expected to cover general sports news for the titles, which may be self-generated or directed by the sportsdesk.
