MARINE PILOT

This is a key role in Delivering Fenland District Council’s "Port Authority" functions on the River Nene. You will be part of a small but enthusiastic marine services team, responsible for a range of marine activities. The river environment is an important economic driver for the area and covers commercial shipping, leisure activities and evolving offshore wind farm opportunities. The role will predominately focus on providing pilotage to shipping for the ports of Wisbech and Sutton Bridge, which handle vessels up to 120m in length and average gross tonnage of 3,000.

Following a suitable period of training and after qualifying as an authorised pilot for the Port, your primary duties will be as a marine pilot. In addition you will work closely with the marine team to assist in the management and

delivery of the pilotage service, aids to navigation and other marine operations at the Port.

You should hold a Master unlimited STCW reg II/2 certificate of competency or equivalent. Knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code and relevant statutory legislation is essential. Some experience of ship handling, either in command or as 1st Mate is also essential as pilotage duties are a key part of the position. You must be able to work on a roster service in compliance with Merchant Shipping (Hours of Work) Regulations 2002. i.e: 10 hours rest in any 24/7 hours in any 7 days, and a flexible approach to working is key.
