Lay Advisers – Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements

We are seeking a highly responsible individual with a commitment to our communities to represent the

local community on our Strategic Management Board. This is a voluntary post and does not attract a

salary, however, expenses are paid and full training is given.

The Strategic Management Board comprises senior managers from all the major agencies and meets on a

quarterly basis to oversee what are known as the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).

MAPPA assesses and manages the risks to the public from convicted sex and violent offenders on their

return to the community. Lay Advisers are needed to work with the Board to make a contribution to the

strategic direction of public protection activities in Hertfordshire. Please note, this role does not involve

taking part in the planning or decision-making process for individual offenders as this is carried out by

local panels.

You must be able to demonstrate a real interest in community and social issues, preferably have a history

of some involvement in this area and must be able to understand the complexities of human behaviour.

Formal educational qualifications are not required, although you must be able to effectively communicate,

and understand complex information in written and numerical form.

Appointments will be based on a selection process including assessment and a multi-agency panel

interview and will be for a duration of up to four years.

For an informal discussion please contact Morris Johnson, MAPPA on 01707 354858.

To request an application form, please email: recruit@hertfordshire.probation.gsi.gov.uk

or write to the HR Department, Hertfordshire Probation Trust, Argyle House, Argyle Way,

Stevenage SG1 2AD.
Please note that we do not accept CVs.
